Romford gave promotion favourites Cheshunt a run for their money but ultimately came up just short as they looked for their third away win on the trot.

Romford once again produced a high tempo first half display that was similar to their performance against Bury, causing panic in the Ambers' back line. The game's first real chance came in the sixteenth minute when Chinedu McKenzie lead a counter attack before playing in Will Green who picked the ball up on the left hand side of the penalty area and chipped to the far post. With ex Boro stopper Michael Gooch stranded, the ball hit the woodwork and came out before it was cleared. At the other end Cheshunt's Joey Stevens fired just over from the edge of the box in the nineteenth minute while three minutes later McKenzie found himself unmarked from Ryan Mallett's cross, but the striker side footed his volley just the wrong side of the post. A late challenge on the edge of the box saw the host's midfielder booked but despite being in a good position Jamie Dicks' free kick hit the wall and was cleared, and in a similar position at the other end Jason Hallett curled the ball just the wrong side of Callum Chafer's goal. With Paul Preston firing just wide in the thirty-fifth minute Romford were well on top and should have taken the lead when McKenzie got round the back before turning his man inside out and bearing down on goal but after he beat another defender Gooch came out, managing to narrow the angle and turned the shot away for a corner. The scores didn't stay level for long though as Ryan Boswell broke up play before feeding the ball to Mallett who clipped a pass to McKenzie near the edge of the box and the striker smashed the ball first time into the top corner to give the Boro a well deserved lead at the break.

The second half was a different story with Cheshunt dominating play and giving Romford little possession and they fully deserved their equaliser despite there being a bit of good fortune about it. A free kick was lobbed into the box from the half way line and then headed across goal but Matt Tom's clearance hit an Ambers forward and fell into the path of Billy Jones to fire home in the fifty-sixth minute. Seven minutes later and Cheshunt looked to have taken the lead, but as a free header at the far post seemed destined for the top corner Chafer pulled off a world class save. With nineteen-minutes remaining the ball found its way into the box where Hallett went down easy looking for a penalty but while he appealed and everyone stopped the striker didn't and turned the ball into the net. Romford made three changes but could not force a meaningful effort on goal and Cheshunt closed out the game to move to second in the table.

A disappointing result for Boro, but once again their first half display showed that they can cause problems for the top teams in the division.
