Romford got their first away point of the season but will be frustrated not to take all three against a poor Soham team.

The Boro got off to a fantastic start with Jamie Dicks, blasting a free kick home in the second minute after Jonathan Adebayo was fouled on the edge of the area and moments later Soham stopper Clark Bogard had to be at full stretch to deny another good Romford chance. Chinedu McKenzie’s looping header was saved while at the other end Robbie Mason had a low drive saved by Callum Chafer before Mason late challenge on the Boro keeper earned the game’s first yellow card. On the half hour an excellent Romford move ended with Jonathan Adebayo being found in the box but he was crowed out before teeing up Will Green but once again Soham got enough defenders back to stop the attack. Just before half time Will Green run at his man before cutting in and unleashing a shot that was well saved.

The second half started at a slow pace and on the hour Soham earned a corner but it had to wait to be taken as Jamie Dicks was injured. The Boro midfielder was forced to leave the field and James Ishmail was ready to replace him but the referee allowed the corner to go ahead before the substitution and Mason leaped highest to head the ball home against the ten men. Matt Toms headed a Ryan Mallett corner just over and McKenzie fired just the wrong side of the post from distance but neither team created anything clear cut with the closest effort being Paul Preston’s left wing cross that clipped the bar. With three minutes to go a quick counter attack by Romford lead to a chance but the keeper did well to save the first effort but the rebound looked to have hit a Soham outstretched arm but the official turned down the visitors protests before a few minutes later bringing the game to an end.
