In a low key affair Romford started brightest and in the eleventh minute Charlie Portway beat his man down the right wing and sent in a teasing cross that made it's way to Jonathan Adebayo on the edge of the box. The powerful midfielder cut in and curled an effort to the far corner that beat the keeper but struck in the inside of the post and as the ball rebounded to Nick Reynolds his strike hit the opposite upright and bounced wide. Former Boro striker Wale Odedoyin was proving a handful for the home defence and after using his pace to get on the end of a long ball he could only fire his shot wide. Adebayo who was pulling the strings in midfield, found Paul Preston but his nineteenth minute shot was saved by the keeper's feet and as the ball returned to Preston he managed to pick out Ryan Boswell who with his back to goal tried a cheeky back heel but the ball went wide. On the half hour Tilbury had their best chance of the match when Romford keeper Callum Chafer was clattered while attempting to claim a cross, but the incompetent official waved play on and the ball fell kindly to a Tilbury striker, but with the goal beckoning he managed to miscue his effort wide. Romford's last chance of the first half came in the thirty-fourth minute when Portway made a yard of space and sent in a low shot that was creeping into the far corner but the Tilbury stopper tipped the ball wide of the post.
Romford continued their dominance in the second half with Adebayo starting an attack in the fifty third minute that found Boswell, and his right wing cross picked out Preston coming in from the opposite wing but his effort went agonisingly over. Four minutes later Portway's quick turn and shot whistled just past the post then Preston went close with a low drive on the hour before Romford finally broke the deadlock. A ball over the top was easily intercepted by Tilbury defender Eli Benoit and under no pressure he attempted a pass back to his keeper. However, Boswell had spotted the play and intercepted the ball before rounding the Docker's number one and from a tight angle squeezed the ball home. Both team's made substitutions including James Ishmail back from injury for Boro, but Tilbury could not mount any meaningful threat on goal while Romford looking very comfortable in possession, easily saw out the game to earn a very welcome three points.
