A goal three minutes from time left the Boro empty handed in a game where they deserved at least a point.

Forward Michael Ogboin in for Ryan Mallett was the only change to the starting eleven that opened up their campaign on Saturday and the tall striker's flick in the eighth minute nearly led to a mistake from the Abbey keeper as he fumbled an easy pick up, but managed to grab the ball at the second attempt with Will Green just about to pounce.
Five minute later and a fortunate bounce allowed Romaric Logon to get behind the Romford defence but his powerful drive was pushed over the bar by Richard Wray and as Abbey started to get more into the game a corner flashed across the Boro goal before another chance was cleared off the line by Jonathan Adebayo.
Romford could not break down the stubborn home defence and were restricted to long range efforts with Adebayo and Paul Preston, both going close before Jamie Dicks received the game's only booking for a late tackle just on half time.

Abbey had a great chance straight from the restart when a cross found an unmarked player but he headed the ball straight at Wray, before Romford started to dominate possession. Ryan Boswell twice did really well down the right wing, beating his man but his dangerous crosses were both cleared. Another Boswell cross in the fiftieth minute was cleared as far as Hayes Thomas but his long range effort flashed past the post and Tom Potter could only head a Jamie Dicks corner wide three minutes later.
More Romford pressure caused panic in the Abbey box and after a goalmouth scramble Chinedu McKenzie's effort was blocked and somehow the ball was cleared away before the Boro's best chance came in the sixty-third minute when Boswell won the ball and sent in a first time cross to Green at the far post but his downward header bounced just the wrong side of the post.
Dicks had an overhead kick blocked and McKenzie had one chance saved and another shot went wide before a long ball over the top allowed Thomas to beat the offside trap but the bounce of the ball was unkind giving just enough time for the keeper to narrow the angle and block his shot. Straight from that Boro chance the ball was booted long up field for Logon to give chase and out pace Potter before sliding the ball under Wray to give Waltham Abbey the lead. Romford threw everything forward in the closing minutes but could not grab an equaliser before the referee blew for full time.
