Romford's performance was much improved from their one last Monday, but they were undone by two goals in the last six minutes from Jason Hallett.

With Cheshunt looking for a win and the game at Hornchurch to go their way so they could still grab the last play off place, they had the game's first chance but fired over in the fifth minute after Romford gave the ball away and seven minutes later Richard Wray, making a rare appearance in the Boro goal saved well from a header. In the seventeenth minute Tom Potter brought the ball out from the back and slit the home defence with a good through ball to Greg Akpele and the winger rounded the keeper but a defender was on hand to push him out wide and the chance eventually disappeared. With Boro growing in confidence Ryan Boswell twice went close in quick succession but on both occasions his shot was blocked. Another good Romford move led by Akpele in the twenty-fifth minute set Michael Dixon through on goal but the keeper was quick off his line and blocked the striker's shot. Soon after Potter limped off and was replaced by Akwasi Marfo with Nick Reynolds moving from up front to centre back and this change seemed to momentarily cause some confusion at the back and Cheshunt hit the bar from a corner. Another good chance for the hosts five minutes before the break saw the winger cut in and curl in an effort that looked to be heading into the top corner but Wray dived to his left and clawed the ball out for a corner. Then a minute later at the other end Akpele did well to win the ball on the byline and crossed to Jamie Dicks unmarked at the far post but he could not get any power behind his header and it was saved when unknown to the midfielder he had time to take the ball down and shoot. Romford went off for the break with their heads up having enjoyed most of the territorial advantage.

Cheshunt had heard the good news that Hornchurch were behind but still needed to win and pushed forward from the start of the second half and got behind the Boro defence three times in the first fifteen minutes but each time they fired well wide of the goal. Romford had their own chances too with Dixon doing well near the halfway line before running at the defence and finding Akeple but he failed to hit the target and the ball sailed over in the sixty-sixth minute. Three minutes later a goalmouth scramble in the Cheshunt penalty area was cleared after Marfo had a shot blocked and with Romford looking comfortable the game seemed to be drifting to a draw until Hallett, who had already scored a quickfire hat trick against the Boro earlier in the season sprang to life. From a free kick he got up well to head in via the far post in the eighty-fourth minute then ninety seconds later grabbed a second, this time heading home a left wing cross. The final whistle went soon after meaning back to back defeats for the Boro despite this time matching their opponents while Cheshunt came off to the disappointing news that a win for Hornchurch had put a play off place beyond them.

Romford will return to Ship Lane next Saturday for the final game of the season against Wroxham who are still fighting to avoid relegation.
