Romford were superb throughout, pressuring the hosts high up the pitch and defending brilliantly and fully deserved their fourth win on the spin. They started on the front foot with Greg Akpele setting up Jamie Dicks but the midfielder could only fire over in the fifth minute while seven minutes later Chris Taylor found some space in the area but after being set up by fellow striker Michael Dixon's slide rule pass, hit his shot inches past the far post.
Cray, who had secured a place in the play offs earlier in the week started to push forward but Karl Dent fired well wide in the twenty-fifth minute. Three minutes later Romford earned a corner that Dicks took short to Dixon and after the forward played the ball back to Dicks his low cross found its way to the far post where Ishmail smashed the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors the lead.
Aryan Tajbakhsh had a shot deflected over and from the resulting corner Akpele led a quick counter attack and his ball found Tom Anderson through on goal but after making space for himself the midfielder could only fire straight at Blue in the Cray goal. On thirty-eight minutes another Romford corner found Ishmail unmarked at the far post but his volley was cleared off the line.
Despite the numerous amount of niggly fouls and late tackles committed by the hosts it was Romford's skipper who was the first name in the whistle happy referee's book for a hand ball that looked accidental at best.
A few more late challenges by Cray finally led to their first booking but Ishmail received another one for the visitors before Dixon nearly doubled Romford's lead but after a good run, his shot flew just wide of the far post with the keeper well beaten in the sixty-third minute. Four minutes later and Cray had a their best chance of the game but Michael Gooch pulled off a good save when Jay Leader found himself one on one and the keeper also recovered quickly to clear the rebound.
The hosts had a corner flash straight across goal and Gooch saved another shot from distance before a Cray forward went down after a coming together with last man Frew. From the terraces a second yellow or even a red card for the Boro skipper looked a possibility but the referee was nearest to the action and booked the Cray player for diving instead. As we entered the final moments of the game Romford stood firm and easily saw out the game with the only panic being a late corner, but Gooch punched the ball well clear of the danger zone before the referee brought the game to an end.
