Romford grabbed all three points in a match that never really got going at Ship Lane, thanks to Michael Dixon's second half goal.

Both clubs started the day a few places above the relegation zone separated by only two points. Michael Gooch in the Boro goal pulled off a stunning save in the fourth minute when he got down low to Spencer Harrison's effort while at the other end Michael Dixon used his strength to turn his marker but dragged his shot wide in the eighth minute. A minute later James Ishmail made a tackle in midfield and slid the ball to Akwasi Marfo who beat his marker, but his shot was deflected agonisingly wide of the near post. Both teams were matching each other in midfield and mainly reduced to long range efforts that either went way over or were easily dealt with by the keepers. John Watson tried to chip the keeper from a tight angle and had Gooch scrambling, but his effort sailed wide of the far post while the host's striker Chris Taylor had a good chance after Danny Cossington and Matt Frew won the ball but the shot from eighteen yards went just wide.

Cossington went close for Romford early in the second half but his shot was saved and Witham thought they had opened the scoring in the fifty-second minute but a free kick that was flicked in was ruled out for offside. Dixon had a great chance for Romford in the fifty-fourth minute after using his power and pace to get in behind the Witham defence but his shot was saved by the keeper's leg and cleared, but four minutes later the Boro went ahead when a quick counter attack led my Marfo allowed Ishmail to clip a ball to the far post where Cossington headed across goal and Michael Dixon fired home into the bottom corner. Witham pushed forward and Gooch made another two good saves to preserve Romford's lead while at the other end Dixon had a chance to extend the lead after good work by Marfo but was denied by a last ditch tackle. With time running out Romford were expected to be on the back foot but they never really looked in danger and easily saw out the game leaving themselves six points clear of the danger zone. They now face three away trips, before hosting Wroxham on the last day of the season and need to take only four points from those matches to avoid the drop.
