Romford's fortnight lay off had seen some player departures but also the welcome return of long serving James Ishmail, who despite not having played..

....at all this season slotted into the central defence as if he had never been away.

It took Boro a long while to get going, with Bury having the better of the early exchanges and they took the lead after twenty three minutes, picking up a loose ball across the Romford midfield and attacking down the right. Richard Wray, in for the unluckily suspended Michael Gooch made a good save low down but Ingram was on the spot to hit the rebound home. Five minutes later Nick Reynolds had the ball in the net after being played through by George Woodward but was fractionally offside and the visitors went further ahead in the forty first minute when the ball was played to Mayhew on the edge of the area and he cleverly scooped the ball over Wray and in off the crossbar.
Things were beginning to look rather bleak for Boro but just before the break they put together their best move of the match so far and won a couple of corners in quick succession to be taken by Woodward. Nothing came from the first, but the second had Reynolds soaring above the tall Bury defence to head powerfully into the roof of the net.
The second half saw a completely transformed Romford take the game to the visitors and after a number of half chances went without reward Woodward went on a run into the box, and despite being fouled and knocked off balance tried to keep his feet for a few steps before hitting the deck after more contact. To his credit the referee had spotted everything and after initially trying to play the advantage, saw that none had accrued and awarded the penalty. Ryan Boswell stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to equalise.
Bury then went close when a forward found himself clean through but Wray was off his line quickly to produce an excellent save. Boro were soon back down the other end and some incredible pressure saw a series of four corners each produce a near miss with Ishmail's header deflected over, another from Matt Frew tipped wide by the keeper, Reynolds just failing to connect at the far post and Sam Coe shooting over. But after all this, it was a kick in the nether regions when Bury went back ahead. After a rare breakaway, a speculative effort by Canfer came back off the post and Wray for Ingram to bundle home his second.
Another Ishmail header from a free kick bounced off the top of the crossbar and Tom Anderson's shot was kicked off the line after a superb ball in by Reynolds, but justice was finally done in the third minute of added time. Substitute Akwasi Marfo's strong running with the ball had put his opponents on the back foot and another foray down the left saw him get to the goal line and whip in a cross which took a deflection, but sat up perfectly for Frew to chest home from a yard out.
