The Boro were dealt a blow earlier in the week when both Jamie Dicks and Nathan Cooper left the club but the players remaining produced a great performance to move the team further up the table.
Romford had all the play and fully deserved their lead with Greg Akpele passing the ball into the bottom corner after getting on the end of George Woodward's through ball in the sixteenth minute. George Woodward had already been denied by a good save early on and Greg Akpele had twice gone close before Romford took the lead, but despite their dominance Great Wakering should have equalised straight away after a low free kick found a player just yards from goal but Atu Ngoy managed to make a fantastic triple save before the ball was cleared. Romford continued to play the majority of the game in their opponent's half but could not produce any clear cut chances and were left to hit mainly long shots while right on half time a defensive error allowed a Wakering forward to race clear and round Atu Ngoy but Ryan Boswell was on hand to produce a fantastic goal saving tackle.
The second half was only four minutes old when Romford failed to clear the ball and Tom Ranger hit a low left foot shot into the bottom corner to get the hosts back in the game but Romford did not let this set back change their play and started to push forward again, and on fifty-six minutes a Ryan Boswell cross looked to be going behind everyone only for Harry Culham to take a step back and hit a fantastic volley from twenty-five yards that flew into the top corner. The game became very open in the final quarter with Greg Akpele going close on a few occasions while at the other end a well worked corner nearly came off after a drive from the full back, but the ball went just the wrong side of the goal. In the eighty-third minute Robbie Farrell crossed the ball from the left and his miscue nearly drifted inside the far post but the keeper tipped it over. From the resulting corner George Woodward's set piece found the head of Matt Frew who directed the ball towards goal leaving Greg Akpele the chance to stab home from two yards giving Romford a two goal cushion. Jake Giddings nearly got a fourth after getting on the end of a scuffed clearance from the keeper but the midfielder's effort from forty yards hit the post and the desperate keeper managed to get back and claim the ball. Deep into injury time Tom Ranger got a second goal for Wakering after pouncing on a loose ball in the area but the Boro held out to secure the valuable win.
