After playing Phoenix a few weeks ago people hoped for a better game than the one on the other side of the river but both teams found it difficult to keep the ball and failed to create many goal scoring opportunities.
The visitors started well but the few chances they created were easily dealt with by Atu Ngoy who started his first league game for the club in over a year. Romford had also had an early chance when debutant Robbie Farrell's shot was blocked and fell into the path of Joe Scott but after a nice turn the striker could only fire his shot over the bar. Danny Cossington battled his way through the defence on seventeen minutes but after creating a bit of space for himself, he could only blaze his shot high and wide after reaching the edge of the box. Chris Taylor had Romford's best chance of the game when the ball fell kindly to him in the box but the Phoenix keeper pulled off a fantastic save when the ball looked to be curling into the top corner. Another Romford player returning to the starting line up was George Tubey who last played for the club four years ago, but he failed to hit the target on twenty-five minutes after Nathan Cooper had beat three players storming through from the half way line. Romford had another good chance to open the scoring but Joe Scott failed to connect properly to Robbie Farrell's low cross after the new forward did well down the left wing eight minutes from half time.
Romford were on the back foot for most of the second half as they failed to string many passes together or create much up front and when they did get the ball in dangerous positions there seemed to be a lack of players willing to get in the box. At the other end Atu Ngoy had to be alert early on with a save low down before producing another fine one, again low down to his right on fifty-five minutes after a good run and shot by the Phoenix Sports winger. With six minutes to go the visitors thought they had scored but Atu Ngoy now made the save of the match flying across his goal and getting his finger tips to the ball and pushing it wide. Deep into injury time Romford had a good chance, but after Greg Akpele had made space for himself down the wing his low cross just eluded the blue and gold shirts in the box and the ball was cleared.
