The hosts signalled their intentions very early on when, on two minutes, Kurt Smith received and took the ball down the left hand edge of his visitors’ penalty area and cut it across to Toran Senghore who drove it home firmly just inside Louis Godwin-Green’s right hand post.
Romford continued to build on their shock early lead and had a period of dominance during which Danny Jones had a chance from a Paul Kavanagh pass but could only manage to put his shot over the Wakering crossbar.
Play was to and fro after this with both sides being unable to make anything of their free kick and corner opportunities the most notable of these being for the home side when skipper Paul Clayton headed just over the top from a Kavanagh free kick.
On 25 minutes Boro increased their lead when Kavanagh headed the ball on to Smith who worked into a good position on the right and scored with a shot across the visiting keeper and subsequently both Senghore and Kavanagh were unlucky with efforts that almost crept across their visitors’ goaline.
The delighted home fans were greeted with a further goal from their side when, ten minutes after the previous one, Chris Thomas flicked a cross back to Matt Toms who volleyed firmly into the Wakering net from the edge of the area and Thomas finished off the first half scoring at 4-0 himself on 40 minutes when he headed in a Jones free kick from the left.
Romford slightly took their foot off the pedal in the second period although Smith running through went just wide with a left foot shot at the restart and thereafter play went backwards and forwards with the visitors having possibly slightly the better of the play.
Wakering were eventually rewarded with their efforts when Rob Whitnell was first to a free kick from the half way line and looped a header past Danny Mulrooney into the home goal to complete the match scoring at 4-1.
