Romford started well and Joe Scott twice went close inside the first three minutes while at the other end Thamesmead had a shot that went across the face of the goal but wide on twelve minutes. The visitors had another good chance but once again they failed to hit the target on fifteen minutes and then ten minutes later Loui Hazelwood fired over the bar after Nick Reynolds had nodded the ball down to him. Jack Barry had a long distance drive saved before Loui Hazelwood's powerful effort was beaten out to Joe Scott, who acrobatically volleyed the ball just over the cross bar on the half hour. Right on half time Jamie Dicks' deep cross was headed down by Joe Scott but Nick Reynolds' shot was well saved. As the half ended many nervous Boro supporters turned their attention to checking the progress at other games effecting the bottom end of the division.
Clear of all such worries Thamesmead took the lead on fifty-four minutes when a forward mishit his shot, but saw it fall kindly for his team mate Bude Anidugbe who rifled the ball home from the edge of the area. Romford needed a quick response and it only took them nine minutes to find an equaliser when a huge ball forward by Nathan Cooper found Jack Barry in the penalty area and he headed down to Nick Reynolds who saw a gap and drove the ball accurately past the keeper and into the corner of the goal. On seventy-seven minutes Romford earned a corner that was crossed into the box by Abs Seymour where Jack Barry headed down towards goal. Nick Reynolds controlled it with his back to goal before turning the ball home with his left foot to give the Boro a crucial lead. Jack Barry twice went close to getting a third, firstly heading over at the far post after the goalkeeper had misjudged the flight of Abs Seymour's free kick and then heading just wide from another free kick with five minutes to go. Despite the agony for the Boro faithful of having to endure five minutes injury time Romford held out with little problem and when the final whistle went the relief and ecstasy was plain to see on the faces of the players and supporters. With other results going their way Romford moved out of the bottom three and fate is now firmly placed in their own hands.
