Romford enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but their final ball let them down on more than one occasion and it was the visitors who took the lead when Jack Barry was very harshly adjudged to have handled the ball whilst prostrate on the ground in the box, leaving Joey Abbs to score low to the keeper's right on fifteen minutes. Aaron Omand kept the hosts in the game with two excellent saves on the half hour, before with Romford’s first effort on target Eddie Hart shot low to equalise on thirty-four minutes after good work by Daniel Jones on the right wing. Romford were now well on top and Abs Seymour came close to giving Romford the lead but his shot was well saved by ex Boro keeper Lamar Johnson.

Nathan Cooper replaced the injured Samuel Kemp at the start of the second half as Romford continued to dominate proceedings, and on fifty-one minutes Tyler Hayes crossed the ball deep to the far post, but Loui Hazelwood headed just over the bar after doing well to reach it. Two minutes later and a great reverse ball by Eddie Hart sent Daniel Jones through but Johnson was quick off his line and blocked the shot, while at the other end a long range free kick clipped the top of the bar and went over. On sixty-two minutes Abs Seymour chipped the ball into the box finding the unmarked Jack Barry but the skipper was slightly off balance and could only direct his shot straight at the keeper. Loui Hazelwood hit a free kick inches wide before in the last minute of the game and after a promising Romford attack, the visitors broke free and a cross was smashed home by Matt Simpson to leave Romford wondering when they will finally get some luck this season.
