The stand in keeper made a fine save on ten minutes diving low to his right to put the ball round the post but from the resulting corner Brightlingsea hit the bar and Jake Holman smashed the ball home from the rebound. Neither team threatened much to change the score line in what was a very dull first half mainly caused by an unpredictable swirling wind, until on thirty-three minutes Romford won a free kick on the right wing midway in their opponent's half. Abs Seymour whipped in a ball that missed everyone and was allowed to bounce a couple of times before finding it's way into the bottom corner of the goal. Debutant Loui Hazelwood then twice went close for the Boro before the referee blew up for half time.
Regent regained the lead 10 minutes into the second half through Jordan Heath, who poked home from close range after a goalmouth scramble at a corner before Eddie Hart's opportunism brought a deserved equaliser for Romford. He reached the ball just in front of the keeper on the edge of box and instinctively shot on the turn and into the back of the net via the far post after chasing a fantastic through ball by Loui Hazelwood. Romford were now well on top and were very unlucky not to get all three points with Callum Ibe firing inches over and Eddie Hart shooting just wide. Another Eddie Hart shot was deflected into the side netting but the visitors nearly snatched the victory when the forward raced through and rounded Nick Reynolds, but Robbie Norris was on hand to block the shot on the line before the referee brought the entertaining second half to an end.
