Boro were on the front foot most of the game with Nick Reynolds firing over on four minutes after getting on the end of Nathan Cooper's knock down but despite their good work they found it hard to break down the stubborn visitors defence. At the other end Maldon flashed a shot just over before Nathan Cooper twice went close just after the half hour. Then on thirty-eight minutes and against the run of play Alex Alexander picked the ball up and without any challenge skipped into the area and beat a diving Aaron Omand. Right on half time and after a good build up George Cocklin danced into the box but his low cross evaded everyone and went across goal and just wide of the post.
Romford upped the tempo in the second half and set up camp in the Maldon half with a Samuel Kemp low shot tipped wide on forty-seven minutes. Jack Barry picked the ball up at the half way line on fifty-seven minutes and after a neat one-two raced down the left wing and his deep cross was just inches too high for George Cocklin to score, but the midfielder kept the ball alive for Samuel Kemp who shot agonisingly wide of the far post. A minute later and Chris Barry sent a dipping shot just the wrong side of the bar and just after Nick Reynolds set up Abs Seymour but his shot was well saved. Jack Barry hit a volley just the wrong side of the post but just as Romford looked destined for an equaliser Maldon hit them with a sucker punch when a long ball forward found Mason Bloomfield who controlled and shot past Aaron Omand. In the time remaining Romford still threw everything forward but could not create anything more and will be asking the heavens when their luck will turn in the thirteen league fixtures remaining.
