For nearly all of the first half Boro enjoyed most of the possession and territorial advantage whilst not being able to create many clear cut chances, whilst their hosts seemed happy to to defend in depth and rely on the odd breakaway. This policy though, paid dividends as early as the 8th minute when Jay Nash saw an opening on the edge the Romford area and hit an excellent left foot shot into the far corner.
However, just before that the whole pattern of the game might have been changed had the ref not been badly placed to see a clear foul on Eddie Hart in the box.
Romford then spent the rest of the half frustrated by the solid Wakering defence after good build up play, with probably the best chance falling to Samuel Kemp who took the ball a fraction too wide before hitting it into the side netting on 37 minutes. But Romford were rocked again in the sixth minute of added time when Jay Nash found himself clear on goal and was able to lob the onrushing Aaron Omand.
This rather fortunate two goal lead obviously gave the home team a lot of confidence as they seemed willing to push forward a lot more in the second half which produced a midfield battle. Romford continued to manufacture half chances but conceded a penalty after 74 minutes for a foul in the box that was no worse than the one on Eddie Hart that was missed early on. Jay Nash stepped up for his hat trick but was foiled by a great save low to his right by Aaron Omand. However all hope this must have given Romford was immediately dashed when John Bradley headed in the resulting corner to effectively kill the game off.
Romford are now in danger of getting sucked into the relegation battle and must find a way to turn all their good play into more goals.
