Town have not lost in the league for two months and it was a bad start for the Boro when Sam Bantick went past his marker too easy and smashed a left foot drive past Aaron Omand, but despite that early set back Romford battled back leaving their hosts on the back foot. On a very heavy pitch the Romford players managed to avoid injury after some very robust challenges and were well on top with Jamie Dicks firing over from twenty yards on five minutes and two minutes later Tom Richardson shot into the side netting after he and George Cocklin linked up well. George Cocklin then made room for himself on the edge of the Brentwood box but his curling effort was easily saved on twenty-three minutes, while at the other end the Brentwood attacker flashed a shot across the Romford goalmouth. Romford continued to push forward and a ball into the box was dummied by George Cocklin to Tom Richardson who set up Eddie Hart but his strike hit the upright and bounced clear, and the same player then shot inches wide after a smart turn in the penalty area. Right on half time Romford earned a penalty when Eddie Hart’s initial cross was blocked but the striker got to the rebound first and was brought down. Tom Richardson stepped up and put the ball low to the keeper's left but the Brentwood stopper managed to get across and palm the ball away. There was still time for one more chance with Tom Richardson running at the defence but firing his shot just wide of the far post.
The second half was a more end to end affair but neither team really tested the opposition keepers, with the closest chance being a header onto the bar and also a guilt edged open goal that was blazed over for the hosts. Romford continued to battle but could not find a way through Brentwood’s stubborn defence with their best effort coming with five minutes to go when a long free kick was allowed to bounce in the box and just as substitute Callum Ibe pulled the trigger two Brentwood defenders threw themselves in front of the ball to save a certain goal. Romford will feel like they have missed an opportunity to pick up three points but the manager could not have asked anymore from his players and with more performances like that should easily push their way further up the table.
