In a game of very few chances and even less excitement Abs Seymour had Romford’s best chance of the first half when on seven minutes he fired over after Tom Richardson had done well down the right wing. A mistake in the Boro defence allowed Waltham Abbey to cross the ball from the right and James Elmes was free at the far post with time to control and smash it home on twenty-seven minutes.
Romford had the majority of possession in the second half and two minutes into the period Callum Ibe sent in a cross that was just out of reach of Tom Richardson. Without being able to break down the visitor's stubborn defence Romford’s manager Paul Martin sent on Eddie Hart to replace Nick Reynolds as the hosts adjusted formation, and it was this change that helped Romford get an equaliser in the first minute of stoppage time. A long ball was flicked on by Eddie Hart, allowing Tom Richardson to just beat the keeper to the ball and get brought down fractionally inside the area causing the referee to point dramatically to the spot. The winger dusted himself down and held his nerve during all the protests before shooting to the left and just out of the keeper's reach. Romford then even had time to get one last cross into the goalmouth but couldn’t create anything to snatch the winner, and the draw was probably a fair result.
