Romford rotated their squad ahead of their FA Cup game on Saturday and nearly paid the price until a late comeback. Cray showed little signs of being a team rooted in the relegation zone and hit the top of the bar on eleven minutes from a looping header, and finally took the lead on twenty-eight minutes when after winning the ball in midfield, they broke down the right wing and despite Romford keeper Aaron Omand parrying the cross, it fell kindly to Adrian Stone to push home. Straight from kick off Romford attacked and Nick Reynolds was tripped by the keeper but the referee waved play on and the Boro’s best effort came right on half time when Reece Tranter's corner found Nathan Cooper at the far post but his downward header was well saved.
Tom Richardson playing in a more advanced role due to the substitution of Nick Reynolds through injury at half time, came close with a volley that just went over, before Cray once again started to dominate and on fifty-four minutes took a deserved two goal lead when Shaun Welford headed home a left wing cross. After this goal Cray started to look very nervous and let Romford back in it and Reece Tranter twice went close in quick succession, having a free kick tipped onto the bar and then having a low shot saved. On sixty-six minutes Romford wished they had goal line technology as Jack Barry’s shot was cleared but looked over the goal line. Unfortunately for the hosts, the linesman was too far behind play and never in a position to give a goal. On seventy-eight minutes the Boro did find a way back into the game when Cray spent too long on the ball in their own area and Abs Seymour, back after a suspension nicked the ball and passed to Jamie Dicks who side stepped his marker before being hacked down. Tom Richardson stepped up and sent his spot kick perfectly into the bottom right hand corner just out of the keeper's reach who had guessed the correct way. Romford pushed on and after a corner was cleared Scott Truman headed the ball to Abs Seymour thirty yards from goal but with a quick swivel and left foot half volley the midfielder sent the ball flying into the top corner of the goal on eighty-six minutes. Neither team could muster any real goal scoring chances toward the end but Romford would be the happier of the two after looking like losing for much of the game.
