Romford put in a much better performance than they did at the weekend but were not rewarded with the point that was the minimum they deserved.

Romford defended strongly in the first half restricting Soham to long shots, one of which flew inches past Aaron Omand’s goal, but the keeper easily dealt with the rest. The Boro looked strong on the counter attack with Ryan Imbert returning to lead the line after injury and it was the powerful striker's good hold up play that lead to the first goal when his pass found Reece Cosson, who had run from deep into the box and after a smart turn passed the ball in to the back of the net from a narrow angle on eighteen minutes. Romford were dominating in midfield but after conceding a string of corners Soham finally got one into a good area and Daniel Brown had the freedom of Cambridgeshire to head home. The home team should have taken the lead moments later but the striker fluffed his lines with an open goal and volleyed over. Tom Richardson nearly came up with a second Romford goal right on half time when whilst lying on the floor, somehow produced a brilliant volley that went just wide of the far post.

Early in the second half Tom Richardson picked the ball up in midfield and ran at his marker, beating him in the area and sending the ball right across the Soham goal but no other Romford forward could get there quick enough and the chance went begging. Unfortunately during this passage of play the winger was injured and replaced by Eddie Hart minutes later. No sooner had the substitution been made than Romford were behind when another corner was headed home this time by defender Jordan Gent on fifty-four minutes. Soham could have made it three but Aaron Omand saved a penalty low to his right after David Ottley’s hand ball. Romford were producing some great play in and around the Soham box but seemed to be a bit shot shy and could not test the Soham keeper. On eighty-five minutes the visitors should have had a penalty of their own when Jack Barry chasing a loose ball was taken out by the keeper but the referee waved play on despite the Boro protests. In the final minute while pushing everyone forward Romford where nearly hit on the counter attack but George Cocklin produced a brilliant goal line block to deny Soham and soon after the final whistle went and Romford had to go home empty handed.
