There were signs early on that Wakering could be better than the relegation zone spot they found themselves in the league as after only two minutes Nathan Cooper had to clear a chance off the line. Three minutes later and another chance for the visitors was stopped by Aaron Omand in the Boro goal when the striker got behind the defence while at the other end, Captain Jack Barry hit the foot of the post after good build up play by Tom Richardson and Jamie Dicks. Nick Reynolds headed a corner inches wide but with the rain and wind getting heavier neither team could create anything clear cut until on forty-one minutes a low Wakering cross found full back Max Kent alone at the fat post with the easiest of chances.
Straight away in the second half Romford nearly got back on level terms when Tom Richardson ran at the away defence before curling a shot with the outside of his right boot that dipped over the keeper but onto the cross bar. on fifty-five minutes Wakering hit the woodwork themselves when a thunderous effort hit the underside of the bar and bounced clear. It was however two goals to nil on fifty-eight minutes when a defensive slip allowed player manager Dan Trenkel a clear run at goal, although his first effort was saved he was quickest to the rebound and slid the ball home. Romford were finding it difficult to break the stubborn away defence down, despite half chances for Paul Clayton and Samuel Kemp the game looked to be slipping away until the final nail in the coffin on eighty-four minutes when the Romford offside trap was broken, allowing the forward all the time in the world and he unselfishly passed to Tony Jacobs to score in the open goal.
