Neither team could get going in the first half with many passes going astray and chances few and far between. Romford, who had the lion’s share of the possession created the game’s first chance when on three minutes Abs Seymour found space down the left wing and his cross nearly found Tom Richardson but a defender got back with a goal saving challenge. On twenty-seven minutes after good work by Ryan Imbert, Miguel Lopes Dematos made space and cross to Tom Richardson but the forwards free header was well saved by the Abbey Keeper. Paul Clayton poked wide an Abs Seymour free kick on thirty-three minutes and right on half time the Abbey keeper tipped over another Abs Seymour set piece.
Like the first half, Romford dominated possession in the second period and Ryan Imbert gave the visitors a deserved lead on fifty-three minutes. Paul Preston found the powerful striker with his back to goal thirty yards out, and with not much on he turned and unleashed a powerful drive the beat the keeper and nestled into the corner of the net. Ryan Imbert nearly doubled the lead for Romford when his header was cleared off the line and with ten minutes to go a Reece Tranter volley was well saved. That stop seemed to be the turn around and with virtually there first attack of the game James Peagram converted a low cross to equalise for the hosts on eighty-six minutes. Two minutes later and Abbey were ahead when Peagram again found space and his shot squirmed under the body of Atu Ngoy leaving Ben Bradbury a simple chance from a yard out to send Abbey to the top of the table.
