Burnham's best chance of the match came in the opening moments with a forward finding himself clean through, but brave goalkeeping and defending from Aaron Omand and Scott Truman just managed to block the shot although both Boro men needed treatment after colliding. Romford then got things together and after 11 minutes Reece Tranter beat the full back down the right touchline and his perfect cross was met by Ryan Imbert rushing into the goalmouth to head home. Three minutes later Imbert arrived at almost the same spot again to side foot into the net after another good cross from the right, this time by Tom Richardson.
Romford were now rampant and it was only another two minutes before Jack Barry's fierce shot was stopped by a Burnham hand on the line just inside the post and Paul Clayton stepped up to smash home the penalty although it was a mystery why the ref did not issue a red card.
On 28 minutes a Burnham shot flew not too far over but after that it was all Romford up to the interval. Jack Barry broke into the box and seemed to be denied another penalty when he was pulled down, before on 42 minutes a great shot from Abs Seymour from the corner of the penalty box crashed into the opposite side of the goal off the crossbar. 4-0, and there was still time for Ryan Imbert to have two chances to complete his hat trick before having to retire injured at half time.
Romford started the second half as they had ended the first, piling the pressure onto the Ramblers' goal and any hopes the visitors had of a comeback was snuffed out when Nobbs received his marching orders for two yellow cards in 7 minutes.
For the rest of the match it was all one way traffic and the scoreline could easily have been doubled, but Boro were denied by a mixture of wasteful finishing, bad luck and a great performance from Ramblers keeper Godwin-Green who made some incredible saves. They came nearest when a Jamie Dicks cross ran along the goal line with nobody able to get a touch, Reece Tranter hitting the bar after good interplay with Nick Reynolds and Tom Richardson, and Richardson netbound shot deflecting over after hitting an unsighted Reynolds a few yards from goal.
A great, dominating performance from everybody in blue and gold that bodes well for the season.
