It was the Boro who made the running for the first thirty minutes of the game getting into some good attacking positions but they were somewhat shot shy and when they did get on target the visiting keeper was able to comfortably deal with their goal attempts. Chris Richardson had the best chance but his hard right foot shot was beaten away to safety.
It was the Gulls who took a lead into half time with two similar goals in which the ball was forced into the home net from goal line scrambles with the Boro defence being unable to clear. Jason Hallett scored the first of these on 32 minutes and John Curran got the second almost on the stroke of half time when it seemed that the home team might only go into the break only one goal in arrears.
The second half was a different story as Canvey gradually took control to dominate proceedings although they were only able to add once more to their goal tally with ‘keeper Elliott Anderson being outstanding in a defiant home defence.
The Gulls scored their third on 75 minutes as Hallett found himself free on the left hand side of the home penalty area and blasted his shot straight through Anderson for the best goal of the visitors’ three to make the game safe for his side.
During the last fifteen minutes of the game Romford defended gallantly with the occasional foray into their opponents penalty area but it always looked as though Canvey would be the most likely to add to their total but they were unable to do so.
Romford squad: Anderson; Ottley; Dicks; Ishmail; Toms; Seymour (Long 67); Clifton (Clarke 80); Heywoord; Clayton ©; Richardson; C.Barry (J.Barry 67). Unused substitutes: Oates and Johnson (GK).
