The home side made most of the running in the first half with the visitors struggling to get any cohesion into their passing game and having very little success with any of their attacking efforts.
It came as no surprise that it was Maldon & Tiptree who scored first when ex Romford player Joe Pearman volleyed in well from the edge of the area on 13 minutes and this was how the goal tally stayed until half time.
The visitors made a couple of interval changes to their side with Paul Clayton taking over from Matt Toms who had pick up a knock and Hyun Jin Lee replaced Elliott Long to change the midfield/forward formations.
It was, however, the home side who scored again six minutes into the second period when substitute Leon Antoine was in the right place to convert a right wing cross and they took their lead to three clear goals on 65 minutes when Ollie Berquez drove powerfully into his opponents via the underside of the crossbar from way out, giving ‘keeper Elliott Anderson no chance at all.
The Boro then began to up their game during the last fifteen minutes and took the game to their hosts giving themselves a glimmer of hope on 83 minutes when Abs Seymour crossed from the left and Lee headed in to reduced the score to 3-1. They could have reduced the deficit even more two minutes later when a home defender handled a Michael Clarke right wing cross in the penalty area but Nick Reynolds’ spot kick hit the bottom of an upright and spun away to safety.
Despite being under great pressure during from their visitors the Blues took their lead to 4-1 during one of their few late counter attacks through another home substitute Sos Yao and despite more Boro pressure that is how the score remained at the final whistle.
