Controlling the play for long periods thereafter Southend Manor levelled the scores on 25 minutes with a Tom Hollingsworth drive which went over his opponents’ goalline via the crossbar and then took a 2-1 lead into the interval when Wilf Msiska headed in a loose ball from close in on 25 minutes.

The nearest Boro got to another goal in the first half was when Wola Odedoyin picked up a through ball on the right but his cross shot rebounded to safety off the far upright.

Romford showed more purpose in the second period having made a few half time changes but despite this Manor went into a commanding 4-1 lead through Msiska, again, who also headed on for Gary Paterson to beat Elliott Anderson low down for the fourth. These last two home goals being scored on 61 and 70 minutes respectively.

For the last twenty minutes or so Romford at last took the game to their hosts and were rewarded on 77 minutes when Addian Clifton drove home from a narrow angle but it was a case of too little too late as the home side stood firm and Boro failed to take advantage of their pressure and shooting opportunities.
