The visitors started the stronger but were unable to capitalize on this although Jamie Dicks long range shot from the left crashed off the home crossbar on the ten minute mark.
On 17 minutes poor Boro marking allowed Bedfont to take the lead, Lee Scott scoring from short range.
Romford at last got on the score sheet five minutes later when a Jack Barry cross from the left was thumped right footed into the roof of the home net at the far post by Kurt Smith only for Town to take the lead again just after this when Wayne O’Sullivan was allowed in to convert a right win cross and the home side took their one goal lead into half time.
Futher poor defending allowed Bedfont to extend their lead to 3-1 shortly after the restart with O’Sullivan scoring his second and despite all that Boro could do this is how the score remained well into the second half despite the hosts being reduced to ten men for an offence which led to dismissal for a second yellow card.
The home side put the game beyond reach for their visitors at 4-1 on 80 minutes when substitute Wayne Nankani got to a rebound off the crossbar first and netted.
To add insult to injury Romford’s Paul Kavanagh failed with one of his trademark penalties awarded for hand ball in the area eight minutes into added time when the home ‘keeper saved low down to his right and the final whistle blew immediately after this to take Boro out of the FA Trophy.
