Enfield drew first blood through Solomon Ofori after 29 minutes when he chased down a long through ball taking advantage when Boro keeper Eman Olajide's clearance cannoned off him to steer the ball into the empty net.
Charlie Morris levelled the scores after 39 minutes with a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box after Kris Newby's free-kick had been partially cleared.
Romford fell foul of Enfield's offside trap on numerous second half occasions, but were creating good chances, the best of which saw both Hassan Nalbant and Kris Newby fire shots into the side netting.
Jake Anderson was called into action to make a smart low save after 65 minutes, but with just seven minutes remaining the visitors won the game with a volley from 18 yards by Hirst.
