This was Boro’s second home pre season friendly of the week with the visitors this time being a club who play in the Kent Invicta League which is at Step 6 of the English Non League Pyramid System.

From the start it was clear that KFU intended to give the home side a severe testing as they played fast and skilful football all over the park while Romford, for their part, struggled to co-ordinate their teamwork.

However, it was Boro who had the first real chance when Wale Odedoyin received was left with a clear shot close in but he failed to control the ball on a hard playing surface and the opportunity went begging.

Rather against the run of play though the home side took the lead on six minutes when Ryan Imbert was up ended just inside the right hand corner of the visitors’ penalty area and Abs Seymour made no mistake with his spot kick.

Unfortunately this lead lasted for only a short moment as, almost in the next KFU attack, Robert Sedge scored from close in.

From then up till half time KFU continued to put the Romford side under pressure but their back four and keeper Aaron Ormond stood firm.

It was almost the same story in the second half with the visitors showing that they definitely were not going to be satisfied with going home with just a draw. But Boro, having had made some team changes during the break, looked a more together side.

Amongst others Charlie Holmes replacing Ormond in goal, Lemur Mohammed taking over from Leandro Amaro at right back and Colin Akengo coming on in midfield instead of Abs Seymour while Under 18 Charlie Newson played the whole match at left back

As the half moved on the home side began to look as though it might be they who would sneak a win but by forcing a series of corners, like their visitors earlier, they were thwarted by determined defensive work and at the final whistle the score still remained at the one goal each scored early in the first half.

This was a good run out for a mixed squad of first, reserve and under eighteen team players who, as said in the report above, were given a lot to think about by their very determined and skilful visitors.

Romford squad: Aaron Ormond, Charlie Holmes, Leandro Amando, Lemur Mohammed, Charlie Newson, Bradley Doyle, Paul Clayton, Alex Afful, Abs Seymour, Colin Akengo, Joe Oates, Ryan Imbert, Wale Odedoyin, Tom Richardson, Joel Palmer.

Our home pre season campaign at Fords Newbury Park continues with a double header this coming Saturday when Wingate & Finchley visit us with two sides the first team match kicking off at 1pm and the reserves at 3pm.
