At the end of yet another hot Summers day Romford played their second full pre season friendly and we were able to watch a very fast and skilful game of football on an excellent playing surface thanks to the sterling efforts of Ian Baker.

At the start Leatherhead were the first to press but determined play by the home back four prevented them from turning any of their attacks into goals.

As Boro came more into the game they began to look the more likely to score and did so on the sixteenth minute when Kurt Smith chasing a bouncing ball down the left quickly hooked it over into the visitors penalty area. Aime Blessing was the first to get it under control and calmly chose his spot to slide it past the Tanners’ keeper.

For the rest of the half the home side had a number of chances to add to their scoreline but were unable to get the ball on target to really threaten their visitors goal and so they went into the half time break with just a one goal lead..

Having looked the better side for most of the first half Romford continued to be the more dominant side but were unable to benefit from this as time went and Leatherhed encouraged by being just the goal down tried hard for an equaliser.

Boro put on a few late substitutions, one of these being for keeper Atu Ngoy who was injured going down to the bottom of his right hand post for a fierce shot,

The home team eventually made the game more or less safe five minutes from the final whistle when Jamie Dicks headed in from almost right on the goal-line from a Lewis Francis accurate left wing corner.

Another good run out for our lads who showed a good level of fitness. Now we can look forward to the visits to Newbury Park of Kent United FC on Thursday evening 7pm and Wingate & Finchley on Saturday for a double header with the first team kicking off at 1pm and the Reserves at 3.

Romford squad: Ngoy (Ormond 80), Ottley, Oates, Ishmail, Truman (Doyle 62), Sammut, Dicks, Seymour, Francis, Smith, Blessing (Afful). Subs not used Amaro, Odedoyin.
