Paul reveals his thoughts on the new season

We caught up with Paul as he finalised his preparations for the new season.

WEB Obvious question first Paul Are you ready ?

PM Definitely. I am just looking forward to tomorrow and starting our campaign in the Ryman league.

WEB It was a tough preseason.

PM That was deliberate, I wanted us to play a lot of sides that were of a higher league standard to give the boys a proper work out. All the games were hard, which is what I expected.

WEB Frome what we have seen the new signings seem quality players.

PM We have signed some very good players in the pre season. We have strengthened the side and have several players who are versatile.

WEB Still looking for one or two to complete the squad.

PM Managers are always looking to strengthen. There are a couple of positions we could use players for, but I must say i am an extremely happy with all the players we have already.

WEB What do you see as the biggest differences

PM There will be significant differences. Playing surfaces will generally be better and will allow us to play the football we like. Bigger crowds will help create an atmosphere. There will be teams who have substantial budgest and that allows them to replace players from outside the club a lot quicker. Some of the facilities will be of a high standard, as will the football on show.

WEB So did you get much of a summer break

PM If I add all the days together, nearly a week !

WEB How important is it to get some early points

PM It will give the players confidence, and a good start is always a plus. It will be difficult to tell anything until we have played 4 or 5 games. By Christmas teams will know whether they are pushing for promotion or down near the relegation zone.

WEB Finally Paul a message for the supporters

PM Remember I am still a new manager, last season was my first. It was an incredible achievement, but I can't be expected to repeat it. I would ask for the supporters to give Me, Lordy and the players some time, and to be patient. You have to remember the players are all here because they want to play for Romford. A good vocal support can really lift the team, and we have a great set of supporters. With the play offs it is not the top spot you are aiming for, but there are 5 places all the teams will be aiming for.

WEB Thanks Paul, and good luck for tomorrow.
