Boro seek twelfth consecutive win

This fixture has been postponed or rearranged five times this season but barring some sort of cataclysm, Boro will make the short trip to Roding Lane tomorrow to play Buckhurst Hill.

Wednesday’s 4-1 win at Athletic Newham puts Boro in pole position for the runners-up spot and a win tomorrow would be a twelfth on the trot, but despite Buckhurst Hill’s lowly position – they are currently 17th in the table with 36 points from 35 games - this is by no means a game that should be taken lightly.

Earlier in the season, in what was Boro’s second home league fixture, Buckhurst Hill proved to be stubborn opponents and they were beaten only 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Sonny Shilling.

Buckhurst Hill are in their second season in the Essex Senior League following their elevation from the Thurlow Nunn League Division One South. Last season they finished in seventeenth place.

Previous Meetings:

The first meeting between the teams was in August 2023 and is so far the only one played on Buckhurst Hill’s turf. On the opening day of the Essex Senior League season Boro won 2-1 thanks to two goals from Eman Robe. The return at Mayesbrook Park went The Stags’ way as two goals apiece from Hassan Nalbant and Sonny Shilling gave them a 4-0 win. Last season there was also a Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy tie played at Barking which Boro won 5-1; Finlay Dorrell netted twice as did Scott Doe, while Charlie Morris got the other.

Current Form:

Buckhurst Hill have won just twice in their last ten league games, but one of those wins sent shockwaves through the league. In early March they beat Takeley 2-0 at Myrak Park but it was their spectacular 4-0 win over league leaders Tilbury a week later that made the news. In five games since then they have picked up a solitary point however, and that came last Saturday in a 4-4 draw at Halstead Town.

Home Ground and How to Get There:

The club’s ground is Myrak Park, which is in Roding Lane, Buckhurst Hill, IG9 6BJ and by car is just 25 minutes from Romford. The ground has a large car park, but dogs are not allowed.

By public transport, the nearest station is Buckhurst Hill on the Central Line, from where it is a walk of about 10 minutes.

Admission Prices:
£8 adults
£5 concessions
£2 child
U12s free

Other Boro teams in action this weekend:

Boro’s reserve side have an away game in the ESL South Division at Wadham Lodge against West Essex with a 12.30pm kick-off and on Sunday, Romford FC Women face Stanway Rovers again, away from home this time with a 2pm kick-off.

Other Essex Senior League games this weekend:

This weekend was originally scheduled as the final round of Essex Senior League fixtures, however these have been put back a week with other games arranged for tomorrow. The exception is Tilbury’s home game against Frenford. Pending a decision from the Essex Senior League about the Saffrom Walden Town v Tilbury game which was abandoned on Tuesday, this could be Tilbury’s final league fixture, and a win would clinch the league title for The Dockers.

Third placed Woodford Town are without a game.
