Romford were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Grays Athletic but despite being a division below, held their own and probably edged the tie.
After Ryan Imbert had fired over for Romford Grays took the league when Joao Carlos ran in behind the defence, rounded Aaron Omand in the Boro goal and passed the ball into the empty net. Lamar Joseph saved well from Ryan Imbert on nine minutes before Romford should have equalised on twenty three minutes but Abs Seymour missed his kick. Grays had the ball in the back of the net midway through the first half but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul cutting short the celebrations and both teams had penalty shouts turned down by the inept officials. Romford continued to make chances with Scott Truman heading wide from an Abs Seymour free kick and Junior Baker clearing Ryan Imbert's shot off the line. Right on half time Ryan Imbert again found space in the box but could only head over Kurt Smith's cross.
The second half kicked off and Romford were once again on top but couldn't find the goal their play deserved and Jamie Dicks fired the ball over after good work by Kurt Smith and Abs Seymour. Against the run of play Grays doubled their lead when Kenny Beaney's shot from distance was deflected and the ball curled into the top corner. Romford introduced Eddie Hart on sixty-five minutes and the striker got his team back in the game two minutes later firing home after a great pass by Abs Seymour. Romford deserved an equaliser and Jamie Dicks came closest heading Kurt Smith's cross against the post. Romford continued to push forward but Grays hung on to move into the next round, but Romford can be proud as they outplayed their higher league opponents and on another day would be the team celebrating.
