Boro were hoping to follow up their excellent new year's day victory over Grays, and in the second minute came close to getting an early goal in the same way as they had done in that match. Reece Hewitt was first to the ball when it landed in the goalmouth from Nick Reynolds' long throw but his toe poke went just over the bar. Unfortunately though it was all downhill for the rest of the first half as the visitors never really created much more and struggled to cope with Soham's long ball game. By the break the hosts had taken a two goal lead with headers from Sam Mulready after eleven minutes and Callum Russell seven minutes later.
Ten minutes into the second half Harry Aldridge had to rush out to intercept a Soham attacker who was clear through but he mistimed his dive and collided with his opponent who went down in the box. Sam Mulready dispatched the penalty leaving Romford with the proverbial mountain to climb. They rallied and started to put together some meaningful attacks and Frederico Hernandez was very unlucky not to get his first goal for the club when his superb strike from around thirty yards cannoned back off the crossbar with the home keeper beaten. However Soham were still looking dangerous on the break and managed to bag their fourth in the last minute of normal time when Michael Baulk curled the ball in with the outside of his left foot.
Results elsewhere kept Boro just clear of the relegation zone as they prepare for Barking's visit next Saturday
