Akwasi Marfo had the ball in the back of the net as early as the second minute but Nick Reynolds had strayed offside in the build up, and the goal was disallowed but the big striker made up for this two minutes later by smashing the ball into the top corner after George Woodward and Luke Stanley had taken a quick short free kick allowing the latter to pick out his man on the penalty spot. On nine minutes Redbridge had a good chance to equalise but former Boro man Steve Good mistimed his header when free in the area, and that proved costly as Romford doubled their lead four minutes later. Marfo, Woodward and Chinedu McKenzie fashioned an eight, one touch passing movement before George Woodward found Nick Reynolds free in the box. The striker looked like he would shoot but fooled the visiting defence by unselfishly back healing the ball into the path of McKenzie who curled it past the keeper and into the back of the net to make it four goals in four games for the new signing. Romford were on the ascendancy with Marfo pulling the ball back to Connor Goldstone but his shot was deflected wide before a Jake Gidding cross found Reynolds at the far post and he headed across goal to Matt Frew who took too long to get his shot away and the chance was cleared. On twenty minutes George Woodward went on a run and after a neat one-two with Stanley found himself in the box but just as he was about to score the ball was poked off his toe and Redbridge cleared. McKenzie twice went close within a matter of minutes but after doing well and finding space in the box he failed to hit the target on both occasions. At the other end Michael Gooch had to be alert to keep out an effort from Redbridge while Romford could have had a third right on half time, but Reynolds' shot was saved.
Both teams attacked early in the second half but neither could create anything clear cut until the the fifty-fifth minute when Redbridge should have got back in the game after a mistake in the Romford defence, but the winger failed to hit the target when clean through. After this scare Redbridge never really threatened the home goal again and Romford now playing with confidence were producing some really good football. Luke Stanley had been brilliant all afternoon and after being put through by Chinedu McKenzie, cheekily chipped the keeper to secure the three points for the Boro in the sixty-ninth minute. The winger had a carbon copy of his chance eight minutes later but this time could not put enough power on his chip and the keeper was able to catch the ball with ease. With five minutes to go substitute Chris Barry danced his way into the area but his attempt was saved and Stanley had another chance, but after beating his marker yet again shot just wide of the far post before the referee brought the game to an end.
So despite their injury list Romford moved a little further up the table and their supporters went home delighted, having witnessed a very entertaining game and three memorable goals.
