Romford were worthy of the point but could have fallen behind as early as the fourth minute when James Peagram was put clean through by a defence splitting pass but Michael Gooch was quick off his line and used his legs to block the shot. Joe Scott managed to get behind the Aveley defence on seventeen minutes but his left foot shot from the edge of the box was saved. Romford took the lead on twenty-three minutes when a free kick found it's way to Robbie Farrell on the right wing and the forward sent in a fantastic cross to Danny Cossington positioned inches from the goal line, and the midfielder made no mistake heading home to record his first goal for the club. Robbie Farrell had a good chance to double Boro's lead but was caught in two minds when escaping his marker and fired just over, before Aveley got back on level terms six minutes before the break with a really well worked goal leaving Peagram a chance from six yards from which he made no mistake. The hosts should have taken the lead right on half time when David Fallah was fouled in the box by Matt Frew but Michael Gooch saved his third penalty of the season, diving to his right to push away Peagram's strike.
Robbie Farrell had a shot blocked early in the second half before the striker crossed from the left to Ryan Boswell but his shot was well saved by the Aveley keeper. Ryan Boswell let fly from distance on fifty-one minutes but his effort was beaten away while at the other end Michael Gooch dropped a cross but as the ball was kicked towards goal, George Woodward cleared it off the line. Aveley enjoyed most of the possession without really threatening while Romford looked dangerous on the counter attack but neither team could provide that bit of magic and produce a winner, and a draw was probably the correct result.
After the previous Saturday's disappointing performance this was a far better one from Romford against one of the teams who will have promotion ambitions.
