They actually started well on the new artificial carpet and had the home team pinned in their own half before they broke out and scored from their first real attack after seven minutes. Aaron Omand did well to push out a shot to the right, but when a cross came straight back in, Parker had plenty of space to head home. The second followed eleven minutes later with another header, this time Clarke stooping low at the far post.
Luke Callander has scored plenty of goals at a higher level and after twenty seven minutes the prolific striker pounced on a Romford defensive error and rolled the ball in. The fourth came seven minutes later when Blackwell was left with an open goal after a long shot had come back off the post. In between all this mayhem the game had been fairly even or perhaps even shaded by Boro who had lots of possession and spent long periods in the Sudbury half. However the difference was the speed of attacks and clinical finishing from the hosts who had only been denied promotion in the play offs.
Romford made the best possible response inside the opening minute of the second half when Shomari Barnwell broke down the left and got in a good cross. Bowles in the Sudbury goal who made good saves throughout the game, miraculously got a hand to Nick Reynold's point blank shot but could not stop the onrushing Reece Cosson forcing it home.
Urged on by the large away support Romford continued to press and created a number of half chances but the game was put to bed in the 65th minute when Callender scored a carbon copy of a goal he had previously registered against Romford for Heybridge, turning in a tight circle and sweeping the ball home in one movement. Boro still refused to fold in the heat and substitute Greg Akpele made some good runs, one of which resulted in him being upended in the box. Joe Bricknell's excellent penalty was the last kick of the match giving the score a slightly more respectable look.
