Boro look for back-to-back home league wins

After Wednesday's Essex Senior Cup tie, it's a return to league action this Saturday with the visit of Soham Town Rangers. Romford first met Soham in the 2011-12 season, with the home game - which was at Aveley - ending in a 3-3 draw. Having won the Eastern Counties League in 2008, Soham spent three seasons in the Southern League before being switched to the Isthmian League.

Last season, in the game played at Rookery Hill, Romford recorded a sensational 5-2 victory, having trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes. In that game Boro wiped out the deficit in the last five minutes of the first half thanks to goals from Danny Nesbitt and Phillip Brown-Bampoe, whose goal had to be seen to be believed (and if you want to see it again, it's here, YouTube). In the second half, further goals from Jimmy Cox, Ayo Olukoga, and Greg Akpele (pictured, celebrating his goal), earned Romford the points. That win was Boro's third on the bounce and formed part of the five game unbeaten run at the end of the campaign that secured the club's place in the division for this season.

Last season's victory was only the second over Soham in eight home games against them, the other six have resulted in five wins for Soham with one game drawn.

So far this season, Soham's form has been up and down, as they have amassed 12 points from 8 games, thanks to four wins and four defeats. Last Saturday they were involved in the FA Trophy when, having already beaten Bury Town 3-0 at Julius Martin Lane in the Preliminary Round, they drew 0-0 at St Ives Town in the First Qualifying Round. In Tuesday night's replay, Soham were 3-0 winners and will face Hayes & Yeading United in the next round next Saturday.

Scoring goals does not seem to have been a problem for Soham this season - they have 18 from eight league games - but there are quite a few going in at the other end as well, as they have conceded 15 in those games. With there also having been plenty of goals in Romford's games so far, we could be looking at a high scoring match this weekend, and while I am sure most Boro supporters would settle for a low scoring affair so long as we pick up all three points, a repeat of last season's scoreline would be even better!

Supporters should be aware that on the day of this game, the Essex Festive Gift & Food Show is taking place at The Brentwood Centre. This event is extremely popular and therefore the car park is likely to be very busy, with spaces at a premium.
