Wednesday is BBC Essex Senior Cup Day

Romford entertain Great Wakering Rovers on Wednesday 30th October in the Third Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup. This will be the second meeting between the sides at The Arena this season, with Great Wakering having already beaten Boro 4-1 in the BetVictor Isthmian League, and the third time that Rovers have played there, as they drew 2-2 with Brentwood Town last Saturday, a result that moved them into the play-off places.

In last season's Essex Senior Cup, Romford beat Colchester United 2-0 on their own patch in Round Three, but having beaten Bowers & Pitsea in Round Four on penalties, were removed from the competition after being found to have fielded an ineligible player. Meanwhile, Great Wakering beat Aveley 4-3 in the Third Round, but then lost 3-0 at AFC Hornchurch.

Since Romford reformed in 1992, Great Wakering Rovers are sixth on the list of clubs Boro have played most often, with Wednesday night's game being the 35th meeting. Of the 34 games to date, Romford have won 18, Rovers have won 12, with 4 drawn.

Included in those 34 meetings are two Essex Senior Cup ties, both of which took place at Rovers' Burroughs Park ground. In 1994 Sean Junor, Craig Thomas and Steve Brock (with a pair), scored the goals as Romford won 4-1 and then in 2014 it was 4-2 to Boro with Nathan Cooper, Callum Ibe, Tom Richardson, and Eddie Hart on target.

Should the scores be level at the end of 90 minutes on Wednesday, the game will be decided by penalties, there will be no extra-time.

The results of Third Round ties played to date are:
Maldon & Tiptree 7-1 Wivenhoe Town
Heybridge Swifts 2-1 Colchester United
Stanway Rovers 1-4 Chelmsford City
Braintree Town 2-1 Tilbury
Hullbridge Sports 0-1 Dagenham & Redbridge
Coggeshall Town 1-2 Waltham Abbey
