Boro visit league leaders on Saturday

Romford travel to Ram Meadow - or The Denny Bros Stadium as the ground is currently known - on Saturday to face league leaders Bury Town, looking to build on last weekend's first win over Histon.

Romford's record at Bury has been good in recent seasons, and since The Blues were relegated from the Isthmian League Premier Division in 2014, Boro have won one and drawn two of the four games played there between the sides. One of those draws was last season, when Romford led 1-0 thanks to Roddy Lemba's goal on the stroke of half-time, but after being pegged back six minutes from the end, were denied a win when Ernest Okoh's 'goal' in injury time was ruled out, the referee having blown somewhat prematurely for a foul on the Romford player. The point that Boro earned in that draw in August 2018 was to be the last that was won on the road until the 3-1 win at AFC Sudbury the following April.

Most fondly remembered of Romford's visits to Ram Meadow is probably the 2016 game, when goals from Chinedu McKenzie and Will Green secured a 2-1 win after Boro had trailed 1-0 shortly after the interval. Not even a very late return to Romford thanks to the road works that had closed the M11 dampened the spirits of the players and the supporters who made the trip that evening.

Bury have made an impressive start to the season, and have recorded six wins and two draws in their opening nine league games. Their solitary defeat came at home to Tilbury three weeks ago, The Dockers returning to Essex with a 2-1 win under their belts. Last Saturday Bury came away with all three points having won 2-1 at Felixstowe & Walton United, which put them top of the table thanks to Maldon & Tiptree's involvement in the FA Cup. On Tuesday, Bury beat Coggeshall Town 3-0 in a Velocity Trophy group game.

Ram Meadow - sorry, The Denny Bros Stadium - is a ground much liked by fans of non-League football, and it usually does well in the poll of best grounds in our division as voted for by supporters on the BetVictor Isthmian League website, with its traditional vibe and good atmosphere. It is one which most Boro fans enjoy visiting (depending on the result, of course!)

For those Romford supporters travelling to the game, there is a coach leaving PlayFootball on the Eastern Avenue in Romford at 11.30am, with a pick up at the Holiday Inn, Brentwood fifteen minutes later. Fares are £12 for club members, £15 for non-members.

Independent travellers should note that by public transport you'll need to take at least three trains, one from Romford, changing at Colchester (depending on which train you catch from Romford you may have to change at Shenfield first), and then at Ipswich to arrive at Bury St Edmunds Station, from where the ground is a fifteen minute walk.

For drivers, the Post Code for your Sat Navs is IP33 1XP, and parking is in the Ram Meadow Public Car Park, which is Pay and Display, and costs £1.80 for up to 3 hours, or £2.30 all day. Journey time from Romford is approximately one hour forty minutes.
