The
reserves first game of the season saw us take on East Thurrock here at
Rush Green. We came out quite lively and went a goal up through a good set
piece. The ball was played in to the box for Manzi Mbala to get his head on
the end of it and place it into the net. We appeared to be in full control
of the game until a cross/shot came in to give them a fluke goal as it
sailed over Wayne Martin's head. This rattled us a bit and we began to pound
their penalty area. There was a scramble in the box which eventually
rebounded off of one of their players to put us 2.1 up and secure us the
three points.
Our second game saw us travel to Concord Rangers. We came out well once
again and we looked comfortable. A good piece of play from Kurt Smith saw
him brought down in the penalty box and Manzi stepped up to make it 1.0.
After 25 minutes, Concord began to get stuck in and we found ourselves
rattled once again. Stacey Bowtell pulled off at least five good saves to
keep our lead. With 20 minutes to go, Jason Johnson got chopped down in the
area to give us our second penalty of the afternoon. Manzi stepped up again
and made it 2.0. After this we just closed down for the rest of the game and
were happy with another three points, especially away from home.
It's always nice to start a season by taking six points out of six.
Let's see if we can beat last season's record of ten games in a row unbeaten.
