ROMFORD 0 (0) - (1) 2 Dereham Town Attendance 58 - Ship Lane
Another league defeat but a much more encouraging performance by Romford against the promotion chasers from Norfolk.
For supporters who had not travelled to Billericay and Aveley it was to be a first look at a number of new faces brought into the squad by Paul Martin as he continues his tireless search for a winning combination, and they produced a good first half performance with Boro looking solid and well organised in defence and midfield. Both teams played some good football without being able to fashion much of a threat to either goal but as the interval was fast approaching all Romford's good work was undone when a theatrical fall to the ground persuaded the badly positioned referee to award Dereham a highly debatable free kick leading to a corner from which Borrer found space to head home.
The second half opened up as both sides came out looking to play a more direct, attacking game with Boro especially committing more men forward as they endeavoured to search for an equaliser. Max AUSTIN's effort was deflected and clipped the top of the crossbar while his strike partner Chris TAYLOR showed some nice skill and control with his back to goal that ended with a lob that had the visiting keeper scrambling to save. However, as seems to have been the story of the season for Romford in front of goal they never seemed to get a kind bounce or a loose ball run their way and in the 69th minute Dereham showed the clinical finishing that is the only real difference between teams at the top and bottom of the table this term. A sharp move down the right ended with a cross for Crisp to nip in and head powerfully through the hands of James MAY from close range. Boro continued to press forward in a desperate effort to get back into the game and they gained a numerical advantage when Dereham's Kelleher received a second yellow card, but all their efforts came to nothing against a determined defence.
