ROMFORD 0 (0) - (4) 6 AFCH Attendance 147 - Ship Lane
Romford were hit for six against runaway league leaders AFCH.
On a night to forget for everyone involved at Romford Football Club, local rivals AFCH put the Boro to the sword with a comprehensive win. Four first half goals, including a hat-trick from Theo Fairweather-Johnson put the game to bed and although Romford were much improved in the second half the damage was already done. Substitute Assombalonga scored two goals near the end to put the cherry on the cake for the visitors while Romford were catalysts in their own downfall with some poor defending and horrendous mistakes that were punished. Manager Paul Martin will now look to Saturday and demand a better performance against Aveley who have been struggling this season on their new plastic pitch. With Cheshunt picking up points Romford are looking over their shoulder and a win at the weekend would do their survival chances no end of good.
AFCH got down the left wing early and had already missed a good chance before their striker poked in from close range. Romford gifted the second when a poor pass from Boro stopper James MAY was ceased upon and Warner eventually fired home. Luke HORNSLEY had a header drift just wide with the keeper beat but a quick fire double from Fairweather-Johnson made it four before half time.
Romford made a double sub and had two chances saved early on. AFCH sat back and soaked up the attacks before two more goals late on from Assombalonga, capitalising on some hesitant defending gave the visitors a deserved victory. There were some positives from the game with Romford matching, if not out doing the visitors in possession and the build up play in the second was excellent with only a superb keeping and defending performance stopping the Boro getting on the score sheet. Substitute Josh SYKES looked dangerous and was a handful for his opponents and hopefully will cause a less experienced pair even more trouble.
