ROMFORD 1 (0) - (0) 1 Aveley Attendance 125 - Ship Lane
An Ayo Olukoga goal with three minutes left on the clock was enough to earn Romford a point against fellow strugglers Aveley.
Neither team had recorded a league victory for a long time but both fancied their chances, with a much improved Romford unbeaten in three and the Millers under new management who have strengthened their playing staff. In difficult, wet conditions Romford nearly opened the scoring inside the first minute when Jonathan NZENGO broke down the right wing but his low cross was just too far in front of Carlos DJALO. James ISHMAIL went close for the hosts, firing just wide after a slick Boro move but they soon had young keeper Arthur JANATA to thank for a good save low down. Aveley's star man Robbie Rees had a goalbound shot blocked before the same player forced another good save from Janata after a neat turn and shot. Djalo flicked a cross just wide for Romford before the referee brought to a finish the error strewn first half to the delight of the crowd.
The second half was a much better spectacle and Djalo nearly opened the scoring seven minutes in after beating the offside trap, but his stinging effort was tipped over by the impressive Rhys Madden. The Aveley stopper also did well from the resulting corner, turning Michael FINNERAN's header over. The other number one, Janata saved with his feet from Rees before at the other end Finneran blasted a forty yard effort towards goal that was palmed over. The deadlock was finally broken, but unfortunately for Romford it was by the visitors when Aveley were awarded a throw in that clearly should have gone Boro's way and inevitably after it was quickly taken, a cross from the right found Alex Teniola to head home in the sixty-first minute. Romford made some changes and substitute Harry DALY's free kick was nearly flicked home by FInneran before Romford were finally rewarded for all their fight when Daly's shot was blocked, but man of the match Olukoga who had covered every blade of grass, smashed home the rebound. In a frantic finish both teams had chances to win it in stoppage time, but a draw was probably a fair if unwanted result for both and although they remain bottom, Boro move up to within a point of Norwich United.
