ROMFORD 0 (0)-(2) 2 Ware Attendance 105 - Ship Lane
After a fantastic start to 2018 Romford were brought back to earth after a demoralising defeat at home to Ware.
In what was arguably their worst performance of the season a lethargic Romford failed to produce the kind of form that had seen them win five of their last six games. The visitors who were pretty poor themselves had to make an adjustment early on when their keeper smashed his head on the post trying to save Michael FINNERAN’s looping header that was always going over. After a seven minute delay and the call for a stretcher, the stopper was replaced between the sticks with winger Murat Karagu, who was rarely tested by the disappointing hosts. With their first attack Ware broke the deadlock in the twenty-seventh minute when a hopeful ball forward found substitute Marcus Milner in an onside position through on goal. Although Boro keeper James MAY made a good save Daniel Olusemo was on hand to steer in the rebound. James ISHMAIL stung the keeper’s finger tips from distance before Ware snatched their second goal with their second attack as Milner found time to turn in the box and smash home on thirty-six minutes. Deep into first half injury time Romford twice went close but could not pull themselves back into the game.
The second half could only be described as a bore fest with neither team creating anything until really late in the game when Romford debutant Josh SYKES on as a substitute, out muscled his marker before seeing his attempted lob saved. All in all a very disappointing night for Romford who missed out on a huge opportunity to move further away from the bottom and gain an advantage on fellow relegation candidates.
