ROMFORD 0 (0) - (1) 1 Soham Town Rangers Attendance 77 - Ship Lane
Romford gifted Soham Town three points and now sit just two places above the relegation zone.
Romford started brightly and quick thinking by Ola Giwa from a throw sent Jonathan NZENGO through in the first minute but his shot was saved and Ben CLARKE's effort was deflected just wide. The resulting corner was cleared and Clarke volleyed towards goal but once again it was deflected wide. Another corner lead to the ball being cleared all the way upfield and despite a loud call from onrushing Romford keeper Michael GOOCH, Hugo ATKINSON headed the ball past his number one leaving Matt Allan the simplest of tap-ins to give the visitors a third minute lead. Giwa was heading the Boro charge and after using his strength to make space could only fire a weak effort towards goal. Soham had a great chance to double their shock lead when they made space down the right wing and a low cross was met by the forward with the goal at his mercy but Gooch pulled off a good save. Jamie DICKS sent a free kick just wide of the far post with three Boro forwards inches away from getting a decisive touch before Gooch pulled off a great double save to keep Soham at bay. Both teams were getting annoyed by the poor display from the officials with Dicks being shown the yellow card when he accidentally kicked an opponent while attempting to take a quick free kick that was flicked away from him by a Soham player just as he was striking the ball before he was then shoved to the ground by another visiting player. Right on half time Romford did get the ball over the line when the keeper caught the ball and fell backwards but their was enough contact on him by a Boro man for the officials to rule out the goal.
In the second half centre back Tom VICKERS showed great skill to beat two men before crossing to Giwa but his effort flashed well wide. Former Boro winger Ashley Bankole did well down the right to create a great chance for a striker who scuffed his shot onto the post and the follow up effort fizzed wide. Romford's young subs Sam MVEMBA and Craig JEAKINS produced some neat skill and crosses that failed to be met by any Romford forwards and as time ticked on Soham sat deep but looked dangerous on the counter. With ten minutes left Mvemba flicked on a long ball and Nzengo ran through and cut back in onto his right foot but after picking out the top corner he sent his curling effort just over the bar with the keeper beaten. Vickers was pushed forward as the hosts pumped the ball into the area and Michael GOOCH even came up for a late corner but neither could breach the away defence before the referee brought an end to proceedings.
