Smith returns to Boro

Manager Paul Martin couldn't hide his delight at signing one of the first players he worked with, when he joined the club 14 years ago.

Martin said "I know Kurt very well, he played over 130 times for the club, and will bring with him a wealth of experience. He will be able to nurture the younger players, as I continue to develop a young squad, and I expect him to be a great influence, as the newer boys can learn from Kurt and the other senior players. I am delighted to have him back with us"

Supporters are also likely to be pleased. Kurt and his family were always welcomed back to the club when they visited. Kurt has scored 53 goals for the club previously, and can play in various positions.
