Thanks to everyone involved at the club we were able to collect and donate a fantastic £770 towards the national fund for local girl Joni-Mai Stevens.

Eight year old Joni-Mai is suffering from a rare form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma and after earlier successful operations she has now been diagnosed as having more inoperable tumours on her skull, spine and ribs. It now seems that she may need to go abroad for further treatment on her condition which is why the website www.joni-mai.co.uk has been set up.

On discovering this news Boro manager Paul Martin resolved to put the resources of his club to arranging a day that Jon-Mai and her family would remember and thanks to the clement weather on the day we were able to do so at our home Ryman League Division One North game with Soham Town Rangers last Saturday.

In preparation for this all the Romford squad players purchased a Joni-Mai T Shirt to wear at the matchday warm-up (see photo) which raised £200 to which was added £70 from the players' social fund.

The rest of the club played their part too with the Directors deciding that all profits from the day's gate money and the whole of the club's regular Chairman's New Ground match day collection should also be donated.

The visiting club also played their part with their own pre match publicity and joined the home supporters with generous contributions at both the turnstile and collection points which, after rounding up, added a further £500 to the fund.

The whole of the Stevens family including Joni-Mai were Romford's guests of honour on the day and on departure were presented with the club's contributory cheque and Joni-Mai was presented with a team shirt with her name on the back together with all the players' autographs.

All in all a good job well done!
